Ha, who said, reading is contemplative? James Patterson gives the word “thriller” a new meaning. He published the first ever self-destructing book that dissappears in just 24 hours: private vegas.
Two versions are on offer. The first is a digital book released through a web application, where 1,000 readers will have one day to race to the end before it completely vanishes from view, leaving them with little resolution to the storys end. A countdown clock appears on an integrated app, allowing the reader only 24 hours before the copy disappears.
The book even has ist own satelite website. Observers can track other readers progress online.
The second goes to a thrill-seeker for the price tag of $294,038. This winner can purchase the book, along with a private trip to an undisclosed luxury location, a 5-course dinner with Patterson himself, gold binoculars to read from a safe distance and a swat team for book handling after explosion.
Unbelievable, isn’t it? This Patterson guy is a marketing genius, I think. He got me hooked, thats for sure. Am tempted to download the thing…
p.s.: which I just tried, but the terms read as such: The Self Destructing Book (the Promotion) is open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who are at least thirteen (13) years old at the time of entry and who have an Apple® iPad® device prior to January 21, 2015. So, it’s an American affair, for Apple users only… too bad.
